 Focus on our Community
THE MURRAY CLUB
An invitation for new members or volunteers to join in the fun at The Murray Club.
The Murray Club has been in operation for 17 years and is sponsored by the Pinjarra RSL Sub-Branch under the umbrella of the Department of Veterans Affairs’. The club is run by volunteers from the Pinjarra Women’s Auxiliary and some members from the RSL. We need more volunteers urgently. As you’ll appreciate we are getting older and want to encourage new members to join but we need help from the local community so we can continue to provide our great services. So if you would like to share your special skills and experiences with others and volunteer we would love to hear from you.
We are a club that provides a pleasant, safe venue for veterans, ex-service people, their spouses and other members of the Pinjarra and Mandurah district. You do not have to be a veteran to join this club. The club meets every 2nd and 4th Wednesday in the month from 10am until 2pm.
What you get?
FUN: most of our members like to play Bingo, some enjoy a game of cards. Bingo is 5c per game. The proceeds from the day go back into the club for the members. The club is a not-for-profit organisation. Lots of raffles items are donated by the members and the local community or and businesses.
FRIENDS: our club helps people to socialise with other people and we have a great day involving lots of laughter and friendship. People come from many areas including age care facilities from Pinjarra and Mandurah. For some of these people this is the only socialising they have.
For a small donation of $5.00 per visit you get morning tea which includes the best homemade scones ever with jam and cream, tea, coffee and a drink from the bar if required (the bar is always open). Lunch is also provided as well as afternoon tea. During winter soup and bread is served as well as sausages, for summer the menu changes to cold meat and salad.
Our club also has events during the year such as “Christmas in July” and a Christmas lunch which is a fantastic roast and there is always Christmas presents at no extra cost for the members.
The club is not an Adult Day Care centre as there are no paid staff to assist those individuals who require a carer. New members who need care are welcome to join providing they are accompanied by their carer for the whole time they attend the club.
If you would like more information, to visit our club or volunteer, please contact our Club Coordinator Megan on 9582 8357. We are located at Lot 4, Pinjarra Road, Pinjarra.

GOVERNING SHARED FACILITIES
Extract from Our Community Matters, Edition 8, 2010
Community groups responsible for the governance of facilities shared with other groups or the government have a new resource in the Department of Planning and Community Development’s A Guide to Governing Shared Community Facilities.
The guide is intended to be particularly useful for those who have not governed such facilities in the past, although it acknowledges that no two facilities are the same, and that the issues addressed will not necessarily be relevant to every facility. It uses public participation as a guiding principle and breaks shared facilities management down into five key elements: facility vision and type; size and catchment; governing bodies; facility maintenance; and operations and integration.
